Abstract

We analyzed activities conducted during a course about the history of cosmology, which aim was to discuss relations between science and religion in a pre-service science teacher training course. Undergraduate students reflected upon goals and methods of science and religion after having studied about the controversy about the origin of the universe that occurred in the first half of the twentieth century. The results showed that the activities were favored reflections on the nature of science, showing differences between the idealized scientific methodology conveyed by textbooks and a more realistic interpretation of scientific activity which does not stop to consider the influence of mistakes, tensions, political influence, economic and socio-cultural.
