Abstract

The scientific and technological revolution ongoing since the sixteenth century has been a significant change in the way we perceive and use the living. The direct and intuitive knowledge of life is only a part of the human experience over beings who share with humans _ their living condition. Considering that for Christian theology and spirituality living beings have been relevant in the development of their experience of God, we will try to show how the evolutionary view of current biology gives rise to a perception simultaneously scientific and theological of the life. We will do this by reflecting on the “tree of life”. To do this, it will reflect on the “Tree of Life” highlighting the aesthethic and dramatic dimensions of the semiotic object. Subsequently, we perform a theological reading, inspired by the work of Hans Urs von Balthasar. Finally, it will be discussed some biblical texts that allow completing the hermeneutic circle between explanation / natural understanding and perception of faith in creation. The phylogenetic tree, then, is a point of departure and arrival of various perceptions and readings about life.
