La apertura mental como virtud deseable en la investigación interdisciplinar*
Keywords:
Intellectual virtue, open-mindedness, interdisciplineAbstract
This article has the purpose to defend that open-mindedness is a desirable intellectual virtue for scientists, especially due to the interdisciplinary nature of scientific endeavor. In the first part, different definitions of open-mindedness will be reviewed to accept it as an intellectual virtue. In the second part, the interdisciplinary nature of science will be considered. From there, it will be argued that it is desirable for scientists to have the virtue of open-mindedness, namely, a willingness to identify their own epistemic limits, the questions that arise at the limit with other disciplines, and to discern whether a collaboration with other disciplines is required, to achieve a coherent and broad paradigm of the reality it studies.
