The promise of Artificial Intelligence to explain and surpass the human mind has led to the incursion of naturalism into philosophical and religious matters. As a consequence, the naturalization of mind and the appeal to artificial enhancement calls into question the prevalence of the human condition, while divine attributes are regarded as attainable within the technological scope. This article also explores religious issues in the cognitive sciences. In particular, the analogy between the divine attributes of Abrahamic traditions and the “ultimate” features of AI. Finally, the divergence between two key concepts, theosis and enhancement, found in the theological reflection, as well as in the transhumanist discourse.
